Re: Foster hamsters
All four hamsters of Bob's litter have been adopted already and Bob is going to get picked up later today. He's going to move in with a hamster loving family who has adopted before.
One of his brothers has moved into this 100x50 tank set up which i wanted to share a photo of. Its a good example of what can be achieved with a tank and i love this set up.

Re: Foster hamsters
What a happy end to this story! I'm so happy all of these little angels found good homes! And well done to you Ria P and to all the dedicated foster carers out there for the good work you do. As a hamster lover, I have so much respect for your efforts!

Re: Foster hamsters
Wonderful for getting him adopted. I think its nice to have an institution taking care of adoptions. Sadly in my country it was jsut me and i often came a cross as pretentios to the possible owner when i told them the min requirements

Re: Foster hamsters
Ria, thank you for taking him in for a short while while a new home was found for him, he may not have been with you for a long but you gave him plenty of love and care. xx

Re: Foster hamsters
Since last week foster hamster Sandy lives in the Samla and he loves his wheels. According to my OH a 'war of the wheels' was taking place the other night when i was at work. Edwina and Sandy were battling it out and they are both pretty fast.
Yesterday i made a bin cage in 3.5 hours which is a personal record. I had to because there was no space in the rescue for white hamster Stuart so i fostered him. He is lovely, very tame and sociable. He kept climbing out of his cage, onto my hand and up my arm. At first i thought that he doesn't like his cage but now i think that he's a hamster who wants human company.
Surprisingly, i don't have a problem with foster hamsters moving on. As soon as one moves to a suitable forever home i think of the next one that could be given this opportunity.
Aside from that, i also enjoy getting to meet different hamsters. They are all so different with their own personalities and its lovely to be able to spend time with all these little characters.
Edwina sat in my hand again last night with her big ears perked up and sniffing in the direction of the new arrival. I wonder what she makes of all the different sounds and scents around her.

Re: Foster hamsters
Ooops!! The four black babies weren't all boys and were kept together before i collected and the rescue rehomed them. One baby had babies! The rescue took mum and babies back and mum will go back to her lovely adoptive family once the babies are weaned. So far three babies have come out of the nest and here are two of them. I think they are absolutely adorable little things!

Yes, volunteering for a rescue is amazing. I love being part of it. I haven't seen these babies but the rescue sent me photos and they are just too cute not to share. Knowing that these babies will go to good homes only when they're 6 weeks old and have an excellent chance of a good hamster life makes me happy.
