Default Bean's screed

Hi! I'm Bean, a young Syrian hamster. I say, "Bean", but my human can't seem to limit herself to single-syllable names, and tends to call me Beanie Weeny, Bumble Bean, Mr. Bean, etc. I think "Sir Bean" sounds good. Perhaps I can get someone to talk to HRH and see what can be arranged.

I've been adapting as best I can to my evidently not-very-bright-in-the-ways-of-hamsters human. First she built me a substandard wheel (see “I made a wheel effort” in DIY), and now she keeps interfering with my nest. My nest! Can you believe it?!

I thought the hutch she provided was too big, so I found a better one. She didn’t seem to think my nest-in-a-jar was big enough (I thought it fit fine! see BeanJar2 below), so she provided an oatmeal box. I made my nest in it, so she removed the sand jar, leaving me with a sand box in the far corner next to my wheel. (I think she wanted me to quit peeing in my wheel; which I have.) Once I got my stash stashed, the oatmeal box, although bigger than the jar, was a titch too small to reliably fit all my bits in (see BeanBum below), so when she did a cage clean, she replaced it with a lovely gift box. Which I like just fine. She even put a small sand box next to it as a sort of en suite, since I’m way too sleepy to walk all the way to the other end of the bin to use the main sandbox.

The human put my water bowl and bottle in the far corner of the bin, behind the wheel. She thought that was a great place for them. I didn’t. I thought it was a great place to build a second nest. This required stashing a big piece of hamster block in the water bowl, then filling it with substrate. The human said, “Oh! You want your nest to be over here? Okay.” She cleaned all the wet substrate out, then MOVED MY NEST BOX to the new corner! Can you believe it??!!! Did I get a defective human, or what?!!

Of course I ran around looking upset. Who wouldn’t? She said, “Okay, sorry! I’ll put it back! Just let me clean up some of these poos first.”) She was scooping away at my naked nest site until I’d finally had enough and bit the scoop. That’ll teach it! She put my nest box back where it was supposed to be, but of course the nest wasn’t quite the same despite her efforts. I crawled in, tidied up, and don’t plan to come out again for a long time. Luckily, I’d pouched this tiny keyboard, and know her internet password, so I can complain to folks who’ll understand. Silly human! I’ve also ordered a book, “How to Train Your Human”. I hope it arrives soon!
