Hamster fell 3 feet, First Salad
Well, I thought I would share the first accident. The Detolf is on top of a dresser. There are two lids on each side. One side is the deep bedding. Opened the deep bedding side and it climbed onto the rail across the Detolf and even though I gave a few pokes to push off there was a fall.
This basically led to being pinned between the wall and dresser (clinging to the towel that the Detolf sits on). I couldn't get to it and had to slowly move the dresser away from the wall and hope for the best. All was well. No injury. Spent 20 minutes beckoning (with treats) to get her out from exploring under the dresser.
That said, I fed a salad today with bok choy, spinach, cheese and carrots.

That sounds scary - clever thing to hang onto the towel. What is your hamster's name? It always sounds more personal if they are called by their name or he or she

Let's hope that its going to be your hamster's first and last accident!
Unfortunately, accidents do happen and we learn from it making sure that it won't happen again.
Luckily, your lovely hamster seems to be alright.

I still can't decide on a name. Let's go with Annushka. I dated a Ukrainian girl named Anna a few years ago. Annushka is a variation. Always liked the way it sounded.
Actually surprised I didn't lose any trust to that accident. Almost seems as though I gained trust from it or in the days after.

Re: Hamster fell 3 feet, First Salad
That’s good. She probably found it a bit of an escape adventure. You have to watch them as although they are nervous of some things (eg hands that look like predator claws coming from above or anyone invading their cage) and are generally very intelligent little things, they are stupid wfeg it comes to hurling themselves from a height and can get seriously injured.
It’s tricky if she does a runner when you take the top off. Maybe have a tube next to the cage to put in front of her if she’s climbed- they tend to walk into a tube. Then you can put your hands over the ends and lift her out in it and put it down somewhere safe - eg a playpen area.
I have Cushions on the floor round the cage area as well - just in case.
Thinking of a name can be tricky. Why not start a thread with a photo of her and get some suggestions based on what she looks like. Doesn’t have to be a girls name - some people use Themes. Eg food (honey, popcorn, pumpkin etc). Some use a favourite film - character names.

Little one is lovely Figuring out a name can be difficult, it's one of the things I like about using a naming theme; it offers a starting place, though if something springs to mind, go with it When I first saw Carbon, I couldn't imagine him as anything else - fortunately, it fit with the theme!
