Default Re: Quick question about free roaming

I've been having problems with my syrian Peggy in the playpen I have for her. I think it was because there was too much empty space. She'd get bored and try and eat her way out so I've mostly been leaving her in her cage (I know it's not ideal, but it's better than her escaping) while I brainstormed some ideas. Well, last night I needed to clean her cage so had to take her out. I put her in the pen along with every hide, cardboard box, tube, tunnel and toy I could find and she seemed to have a great time crawling in and out and over it all that she only started trying to chew the walls after about 15 minutes or so. I think I've finally cracked it! I thought what she would want was free space to run, but actually that wasn't the case. I put her wheel in there too and she was more interested in running on the wheel than the carpet. So you could try blocking off an area of a room and filling it with a lot of things for you hamster to crawl through and hide in. Good luck!
