Re: Meet Lyric
I've weighed Lilith and she's gained some weight but I'm not too worried about that as I can still feel ribs. She's currently 135g which I know sounds small for a Syrian but since being with me she's really come out of her shell and is so active. She wants to be around people, she wants to be held and explore. Completely different hamster compared to (almost) 2 weeks ago. In fact, completely different hamster compared to what the rescue described!!!
Anyway I've attached some photos of her sleeping out in the open? eating kale...and looking rather grumpy

I'm yet to work out my 'secret'. I have the same effect on dogs, cats, horses, hedgehogs and rats. A lot of people call me an animal whisperer. Trust is the main thing I think. When they're with me they know their life has no pain, no fear.
It's a little magical I guess

I’ve never heard the clicking, but do you think it’s something we can use, do you click to her?

I have found a video of the clicking for you.
https://youtu.be/Kx_pIUO8KCY
And would you think I'm mad if I said yes, I do click to her? At first it was without the knowledge that it meant anything to a hamster. When she started to do it back I had to Google it, thinking something was wrong with her. Now obviously I can't do it exactly like her so she must think I'm a stupid ham that can't click properly!
I used to own rats and found all my rats staring at me while bruxing and boggling. I had been bruxing while I was anxious but didn't know I was doing it at the time.(my dentist confirmed that I'd been doing it for a while). It wasn't until later that I found out that it means 'im happy/content/relaxed" in rat language.
I suppose you could try and use it with your hamster(s). The way I see it it's just another language which allows 2 or more individuals to communicate and connect.

I've never had rats. What is bruxing and boggling? Never heard the clicking either as not one of my quartett does it.
It is fascinating that your hamster clicks back at you.

Re: Meet Lyric
Now I listen to that I do recognise the noise, not from my current hammy but it’s a bit early, I do click when I call her but listening again to the video I need to soften and deepen my click and move it to the back of my tongue rather than the front, ps I don’t think you’re crazy
What is crazy is sitting here practicing lol

Bruxing is grinding of the teeth. Boggling it the eyes almost vibrating with it. (The jaw muscle is close to the eye hence why it happens).
Here's a video of it: https://youtu.be/XNn_mtVUX0Q

Haha oh dear what have I started. At the moment only Niko and Lilith click back. The other two are interested when I do it, it always grabs their attention, but they are yet to do it back

Re: Meet Lyric
Update on Lilith.
Always looking grumpy but happy for my nieces (5 and 7) to stroke and hold her. Always curious and getting into everything. Quite a funny character and has really come out of her shell. I think the skittish non handleable hamster the rescue described her as has disappeared. I normally get cuddles every night. She often appears to be watching the TV (right opposite the cage) likes watching mock the week and QI.
She has bouts of dry skin on her ears but that's down to central heating I think. As soon as I put some coconut oil on it it's all good. She still takes eye drops like a champ but if you mess them up first time round you can forget trying it again. Lol
Again she's adapted to a water bowl and has a healthy appetite. Loves her fresh veggies kale is her favourite. Lilith doesn't appear to chew much either but her teeth aren't long so she's wearing them down somehow. She's gained 46g this month and is the heaviest out of my Syrians at 155g
