He jumped!
Hi guys, long time no post. Hows everyone?
Well, why is it that hamsters take the leap of faith as soon as they're given the chance to?
Earlier on Niko went for a swim in his water bowl so I got him out to see how he was and he seems fine, he'd probably do it again so I've given up on that now, he can stick with the bottle. Anyways I put him down on the side (quite large) to undo the clips on the zoozone and get him a treat for being good, nothing new. This time however, Nikos just jumped down 3 feet, not fell, from the side to the floor. Luckily he landed on his feet (I think, he fell behind the drawers.) And on carpet with new underlay so it's super soft. He went on to collect all the food I dropped while I was panicking and decided to explore.
He came back to me pretty quick, he never freeroams on the floor as I'm not 100% comfortable with it so the fact he was so calm and came back was surprising.
He seems ok, not showing any pain. Moving normal, not squeaking and baring weight evenly on all feet. I've put him back in his cage and he's stashed his food, had a run on his wheel had a drink and gone back to bed.
As I said he seems to be ok. When he landed he sounded light, not like a dead weight smacking the ground. There was no crack or squeak so he should be fine, right?
Anyways I hope you are well and had a good Christmas.

Kamikaze hamster Just keep an eye on him. They are funny things and it never ceases to amaze me how they would jump from a height. Probably best to put him in something secure next time.

Yup. Normally he just stands there because he knows he's getting a treat... obviously not this time. I'll put him in something or get everything ready BEFORE getting him out next time.
He'd do the same when he had a shelf in his old cage, just jump off the end of it rather than use the ramp so I took it out.
