Default Holiday Hamster Care

Help!
The person that was going to look after my Hamster over Christmas can no longer do it. I can't find any boarding places and I have no transport to get her to one. I can't take her with me as it is a long train ride and I have nothing for her at the other end.
I need her to be looked after for about 10 days.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?

If all small animal boarding places are full you could get a pet sitter to call daily and take care of your hamster while you are away.

Thank you Ria P. I can't find any boarding places or sitters, that's the problem.

some catteries / kennels will take small animals in their own cages so you could try these. Look on facebook for local pet sitters who will do calls daily or maybe ask a neighbour to pop in? If you really Can't find anyone then you have no choice but to take her with you. A large storage box will do as a temporary cage but you need to take a wheel, bedding etc plus a water bowl and food unless these can be bought locally easily. Make sure the box is escape proof.

Thank you. I think that might be my only option. I'm just worried about how stressful it would be for her.
Thank you again.

What about if I bought some stuff online and had it delivered and set up beforehand. The bedding would be something paper based other than Fitch, which is what she normally has. Thought it's far from ideal, the cage would probably be below minium size as I can't really afford to buy her 1 that's full size. Would she be OK like this for approx 10 days?
I really don't want her to suffer. TIA.

Can you hire a student to come to your place ? There must be a student around somewhere that could come every second day.

Yes for 10 days it will be fine. Just give her plenty quiet time during the day and attention in the evening to keep her busy. Take some of her smelly bedding in the travel box so she has familiar scent.

Some people might disagree but your hamster will most likely be ok if you leave him by himself for 10 days. Hamsters dont drink a lot of water and you can easily give them 10 days worth of food. My biggest concern would be making sure the cage is completely secure and theres no way for your hamster to escape.

Keep in mind hamster's live in extreme environments so theyre adapted to surviving.
