Default Re: Remove bedding’s smell?

I used to have the really useful box I think 45l storage box as the big cage but recently I’m using the Ikea Samla box, the one with rollers at the bottom. With Carefresh I dotn need to worry bedding sticks under the wheel and it still functions, but with soft Kaytee bedding I will need to always check the bottom so my silent spinner doesn’t get stuck for my little robo.

A side question. Has anyone tuck a silent spinner to bin cage wall? How do you put the hole shape or hang it there? Does banging sound against the bin cage wall happens? I’m currently letting it standing on its own stand but there’s some problem with it so I always worry the wheel will tip over.

I think a good option would be to have something for it to stand on - eg a small flat roofed house on the bottom of the cage so the top of it (the flat roof) is about level with the substrate and stand the wheel on that - and it also makes an underground hide . The Ferplast sin houses are good for that - they come in various sizes - no nails or glue and have a flat roof (which lifts off).

Some people have put a bolt through the side of a bin cage to attach a wheel but it would have to be the kind of wheel that has a bolt through the middle anyway. Not sure how you could attach a silent spinner to the side of a bin cage.

One of mine lives in a bin cage. I use a big round plastic sweetie tub, fill it with sand and then stand his wheel in it. It works well because the wheel doesn't fall over and he lands on sand should he go too fast and fall out. Doubles as a sand bath..

My hamster who lives in a tank has the wheel/sand bath combo sitting on top of a Ferplast guinea pig house.

I think to mount a wheel really only works on a bar cage.

I’ve used zip ties to hold a wheel upside down to a bin lid before so my hamster would stop knocking it over. Unfortunately i dont have pictures but its pretty self explanatory
