Thumbs up Re: Are Harnesses and Leashes Okay/Safe for Hamsters?

Okay, I will take a look at that!

She did have a house, but it got flipped over. She doesn't use it anymore. Maybe I should flip it back over so she can use it if she wants.

Thank you! I may change the wheel though because I've been told that the wheel that I have (Kaytee Silent Spinner) is stiff and hard to turn. Besides, I haven't seen her on it in a while.

Okay. She seems to like that though, she goes it in a lot. What is a sputnik? I do not have a sand bath, I've been meaning to get one, but I don't think I have room to place that in the cage. Also, I don't know what sand to get. Someone said children's play sand, but other people said that reptile sand is fine, others say not, others say chinchilla sand, others say no, so I'm kinda confused!

It's a Prevue Pet Products Universal Small Animal Home.

It's fine, thank you for all your help!

Yes, i know, opinions on products often differ.

I use the Tiny Friends Farm Bathing Sand and have never had any issues with it. Some people say its dusty but sand is dusty when poured or sieved and then it settles. It's important to use bathing sand and not bathing dust.
I think quite a few people use children's playsand which has to be washed and then baked. Don't know about reptile sand.

A sputnik is a plastic hammock type thing . Have a look at Serendipity's Barney cage in the Lets see your cages thread and you will see two sputniks.

That's a really nice cage. I just looked it up. I like the top door and big front door.

Creampuff, I also have the Prevue Pet cage, and it’s been a great cage for my Syrian.

I also have a Silent Runner wheel (12-inch; she’s a pretty big girl!) and that’s been terrific too — sturdy, quiet, and turns easily. Also, it comes with hardware to attach to the cage, and that works well. I had it mounted that way for a while, but then had to put it back on the platform since Chiclet went through a phase of wanting to go burrowing around the wheel, and that piled up substrate under the wheel that made it too hard to turn.... Of course, shortly after I went through the trouble of removing it from the cage bars and putting it back on the platform, she abandoned her burrowing activities around the wheel and went back to her usual burrowing under the platform. I swear these hamsters are determined to keep us on our toes! :P

Okay, thanks! Mine did not come with a cage attachment (that I know of). I will look into sputniks and changing up the cage a bit. Would rotating with different toys be good, or would that stress her out too much?
