Chinchilla sand for Syrian hamsters?
Hi,
I recently went to Scotsdales and noticed they are selling chinchilla sand and I am just wondering if my Syrian hamster (2 years and 5 months, male) can use them.
I used to buy from Pets At Home and I have attached some pictures of bathing sands from the two stores.
Any answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

It should be fine. The quality can vary though so bear that in mind. If you were using the tiny friends farm one before I think that’s a very good sand, I use that and the vitakraft one.

It looks fine to me. In the end, sand is sand. As long as it’s sanitary, and not too fine, you shouldn’t have to worry. Best wishes!

It looks ok but it's hard to say from a photo, if it isn't too dusty then it should be fine.

Re: Chinchilla sand for Syrian hamsters?
I’m not too familiar with petstore bought sand but from what I have seen, most are kinda dusty and have a grayish color and are also pretty expensive for the amount you get. I would just buy Children’s Play Sand from a hardware store and sterilize it since you get a very large bag for a small price and it’s also great sand.

Re: Chinchilla sand for Syrian hamsters?
If it's labelled as a sand and not dust it should be fine to use Ive always used the tiny friends farm one which is sometimes a bit dusty initially upon pouring but is ok once it settles for a few minutes.
I did once use a fine grain reptile sand when I couldn't get anything else and found it to be less dusty than the chinchilla one but I didn't want to risk using it for too long as they can be more coarse than bathing sands.

Peach has some in a bowl that she uses for weeing. Which is so good for keeping her cage clean. Cotton just flicks it all over the place making an awful mess so he doesn't have it any more

It looks okay. Like others have said, as long as it isn’t dusty or labeled dust you should be fine!
