Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
My granite slabs are from Rodipet - they are rough granite so not slippery. They're quite cheap but unfortunately the postage is about £8! On the other hand it's £8 whether you buy one thing or a big parcel of things so not too bad if you're buying more than one thing. They also sell granite topped hamster houses - which kind of kills two birds with one stone.
It's still only July so could still be really hot this summer again! The granit slab piece is at the bottom of this page after the houses. Costs 3.95 euros.
An alternative can be plant pot base made from terracotta - it can double up as a large food dish or you can sprinkle water on them when it's hot and they soak it up to keep it cool. You should be able to get those in a hardware store. Amazon sells 10 for £18.99. Mine are a bit bigger than that though.

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
Serendipity delivery with Rodipet is only about £3.50 at the moment so it works out quite cheap to buy the granite tiles from them.
Buying terracotta pots or saucers online does tend to work out very expensive but if you can find them in garden centres they're usually really cheap.
Zeki seems to think that sprinkling water on granite tiles is a good idea, he pees on his when it's hot! Effective maybe but very smelly so just as well I have a spare

When it was in the 30s my hammie was running on her wheel! She didn't seem bothered at all!

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
I keep reminding Harvey that he's a desert rodent, but he doesn't seem to appreciate it. He's shifted his nest about three times and has finally settled on a spot that I guess is a bit cooler. I feel so bad for him, he's so hairy.
