Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
Ha ha - they are welcome to come and holiday here For some reason our house is cool inside although a week or so ago it was pretty warm even indoors.

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
I know how your feeling EnerHam ! We're in the south east and struggling too with this never ending heat (living in a flat doesn't help - us humans and our ham Tali are becoming very lethargic! We use the freezer cup method for our ham and that seems to work, and draw all blinds / curtains so no light/heat in daytime to keep temperature down.
oh and eating lots of icecream helps! wish there was a hamster version of icecream but for now its fresh veg and fruit for Tali. Hope yourself and Wallace get through the next couple of days even if its a grumpy sweaty mess. I feel for you.

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
My little Fitz is not a happy hammy. It's too hot for him to sleep in his nest, he's sprawled in the corner trying to sleep currently and keeps getting up and moving to a different spot every 5 minutes. I feel so bad! I don't know what else to do. I put a chilled plate in the cage but I don't know if he'll go on it.
i'm going away for 3 days tomorrow morning and left my housemate with strict care instructions. I'm hoping for a thunderstorm to clear the air. Fingers crossed!

Very hot in the north today too! It reminded me of Spain in August! I was out and about today and am suffering from the after effects. Still reasonably cool in our house. And we did have a thunderstorm! But now it's hot again. Both hams still in their houses though!

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
I am in the south east and Bella is so stressed by all this heat. I am trying the cup method, tiles and shoving an ice block in front of her cage but she isn't having any of it. It is 32 degrees down here and yesterday it took Bella until 3 in the afternoon to fall asleep because she was just so hot and was not using the cooling methods i was providing her with

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
Its going to max out at 36c today, I even got offered a lift to work as the bus is going to be extremely hot to ride in. James seems to do all right in the heat despite having a cold cup to lay in, he just curls up in his wooden house and sleeps until he wants some water.

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
I've only had Sammy two months, but he shows no sign of being hot. He still has his house completely full of Fitch. I suspect he might be sleeping right at the bottom of the cage, so it might be a bit cooler.

Sounds like our Syrian Newt I haven't seen Nugget (Robo) for days but I know he's ok as his veg is gone each day.

Re: How is your hamster coping with the heat?
Libby is taking it pretty hard. The outdoor temperature is normally 32C-40C (90F-100F) which is SUPER hot! The hottest it ever got here this summer was 47C (118F)! I really dislike hot weather and I think Libby agrees! When he is up, he likes to eat and lay down in his terracotta pot or his ceramic mug that I put in the freezer for a bit. He also lays down on the glass bottom of his cage, where his burrow system is. I know this is about hamsters but my dog, Scruffy, is also really disliking the heat because we can’t go for our regular walks because the ground is to hot! It really is awful and I hope it goes away soon! I can’t wait for fall and winter which are my favorite seasons!
