My cat attacked my hamster!
Hi there again. I really wasn't sure where to post this so I'm hoping someone can help.
So I have my three Russian dwarfs (Zeus, Hades and Hera) in bin cages in my hallway. I also have 3 cats. Now the older two are fine with them, but my youngest kitten loves to sit on sit of the cages and watch them through the plastic and tubes.
At 6am this morning I hear some rustling followed by some squeaking. My bloody cat managed to get into the cage, grab Hades and chased him round the house. I managed to grab Hades and put him bavk with his brother. From what I can see he is uninjured, he went staight back on his wheel and seemed okay but I will be keeping an eye in him.
Now I know a lot of people here have both cats and hamsters, so does anyone have any tips on how to keep the cat away from them, or maybe train them to keep away from them. I contemplated getting rid of either my cat or all my Hamsters but obviously I can't do that as they are part of the family now.
Please please please. Any tips or advice would be helpful.
I do want to add that I considered my hamster's to be in a safe place, but my cat is very...hyperactivie. And of course, they can jump, very high. So serious advice would be appreciated

I would say, don't allow the cats in the same room as hamsters. Otherwise, there is always a possibility that something bad might happen to your hamsters.

As SlavicaK said you should never let the cat in the room where your hams are even if you're in there with them, always keeping the door securely closed & the cat out is the only way to be completely sure they will stay safe.

Re: My cat attacked my hamster!
I think of you cat grabbed Hades he may have some unseen injury so do keep a close eye - they often run on the wheel a lot when scared. It might be an idea to have a vet check.
As the others say you need to keep the hamster cages in a room you can close the door on so the cats can't get in. Even if the cats couldn't get in the cages, just the scent of them on top of the cage would cause stress for a hamster.
