Default hamsters

we ended up removing the hamsters (apart from the two with legs missing) at three weeks old. we left the two with their mum for a few extra days so they got extra care as they are alot smaller then the others and one of them had bad dry skin and not much furr. after the extra days spent with their mum they grew bigger and the ones furr has started to grow back and the dry skin is not as bad. We then had to remove them because the mum was biting them, they are now in a separate cage together and are feeding off baby food and veg. Both their stumps are fully healed they seem fine i am worried about the one that has dry skin though should we take them to the vets to get them checked over as we have decided to keep both these hamsters anyway.
Meanwile all the other baby hamsters are in a cage together and they are fighting alot, one of them seems to cause the most fights. some of them are sucking on the baby females nipples. They are now 3 weeks and 5 days old when should we sex them? thankyou

Default Re: hamsters

You should sex you babies now and aim to separate into males and female groups at 4 weeks. Keep them in single sex groups till maybe 6-7weeks. Baby fights are common and unless blood is drawn I would leave them together for now.
They are likely suckling each other as they left mum a tad early so keep them bust with plenty varied food and be generous. Maybe try an extra water bottle with lactol milk in it.
For peace of mind it may be an idea to see the vet with the one with skin probs but sometimes this happens when they have gone through a bad patch with the litter and it usually grows back after the first moult.
