Did you do a full cage clean apart from the toys?
It's always best to just clean a little area at one time so you don't remove all the substrate, if you do the house/nest area always put a little of the old nest back, the nest actually doesn't need to be cleaned often unless they pee in it, if you clean the area where the hoard is then put the food back or replace it with fresh afterwards.
If you have a fairly large cage then you probably only need to clean about a third or half at most every few weeks.
