"long haired" Syrian get longer hair as they get older?

I saw a "long haired" Syrian at the pet store but she didn't look long haired. Do they get longer hair as they get older?

Females don't have really long hair. They are sort of fluffy all over with small tufts behind the ears and at the back.
Males should have a much longer coat all over with a long skirt.

It's the males who have the long fur, especially on their waist and hips. This is called a skirt. As they age into adults, their skirts can get longer

Harvey wasn't particularly long-haired when I got him. Now he looks like he escaped from Donald Trump's head!
