Introducing hamsters to dogs
I've had my Syrian hamster for 7 months now, and I decided it would be okay to introduce him to our dog. He's an older Maltese (which is a lap dog), so I wasn't worried about him trying to eat my hamster. What I didn't expect, though, was that he would be afraid of my hamster. My hamster was really curious and excited, but my dog was so scared of him. Has anyone else experienced this?

My dog is scared of caterpillars and she is a large dog so I wouldn’t feel too concerned 😂. I don’t know if putting them into contact is a bad idea but maybe it should be avoided as it is a risk.

Re: Introducing hamsters to dogs
Many years ago our dog decided to introduce herself to the school hamster and even with bars between ended up with a badly bitten nose. I think your dog is right to be scared!

Re: Introducing hamsters to dogs
Same here, my dog, a Cairn Terrier got bitten badly by a guinea pig and never ever went anywhere near one.
I'd keep them apart. Rodents have very sharp and long teeth and dogs have very sensitive and soft noses. Hamsters will bite when they feel threatend and a dog would be seen as a threat.
