Bedding in old age
Hi Everyone. My sweet girl passed on the weekend just shy of 2 years old. She had started to slow down a couple weeks ago. One thing is really bothering me. She never used a hideout for sleeping and always preferred to sleep deep down in bedding on the floor of her tank. She would make quite a mess of her bedding every night so in the morning I would pack it down so it was easier for her to walk around during the night. The night she died she was rustling in the bedding and I gently packed it down for her for when she got up. I thought about reducing her bedding in old age in case she didn't have the strength to come back out. Has anyone heard of a hamster not being able to climb back out of their bedding in old age and cause its death? I feel terrible that she might've been struggling to get out her last night and I made it worse by pressing it down for her because I always did this. I always wanted her to have a lot of bedding because she loved it. Thanks.
