Re: 31 Days of October
Cotton looks adorable SKB and those tiny cotton socks just so cute. She sounds as though she worked out just how to get you to do what she wanted- very clever girl indeed!

Re: 31 Days of October
Cotton really was a beautiful girl, such a lovely deep colour & those little socks are so sweet
Lovely to hear how she taught you the taming method & how your confidence grew together

Re: 31 Days of October
Just catching up on two days of your wonderful thread, SKB. Both Honey and Caramel had such lovely, but different, personalities. Yes, Honey sure does sound like she won most of the races in the wheel, lol. It was wonderful that they lived happily with one another for a year, but sad that they had to be separated after a big fight. I know that must have shocked and scared you. I'm glad that Caramel was alright after being bitten, and you were able to tame her quite a bit. My favorite pics of each are the ones you framed, too.
Cotton sounds absolutely wonderful. I totally love her name and her tiny, white, cotton socks, lol. She had such gorgeous, deep coloring and I love all of her pictures. She is quite the intelligent girl learning how to open the playpen, and I love how she aided in her own taming process. What a sweetheart! It is great how the two of you gained confidence together at the same time, and I know it must mean so much that she created your taming process that you used for all of your other hammies that came after her. It must bring so many wonderful memories of your very first Syrian.

Re: 31 Days of October
Sorry I've gotten so far behind on your wonderful thread SKB.
I've really enjoyed revisiting Pumpkin's taming. It is so hard to imagine her being anything less than confident when we see how full of character and mishief she is these days
Lavendar and Poppy were gorgeous, sounds like they were such a lovely introduction to pets for you. I wonder if you would still have guinea pigs now if it wasn't for your asthma and hayfever?
I love Caramel and Honey, they were both so gorgeous. It's a shame they had to be separated after a year of living together happily but it was the right thing to do. Boris and Pasha only lasted 3 weeks together so they did better than my two
Cotton did have such beautiful white socks lol and such a clever girl too.
Looking forward to the rest of the month SKB

Re: 31 Days of October
Thank You Coco61, cypher, dreamtree and BorisPasha. I really loved her little white socks they were so noticeable especially when she was younger with her deep brown fur – this earned her nickname of Cotton socks. Cotton deep brown fur did lightened when she got older (photos below show this) although she still remained so gorgeous!
BorisPasha – It is so hard to say whether I would still have guinea-pigs if it didn’t have my asthma and hayfever, especially after discovering my love and passion for hamsters. I probably would have continued owning them but may have had them in the house during the winter months. As I did really enjoying owning Guinea-pigs they make such wonderful pets – it was shame whenever I cleaned them out or wanted to have a cuddle that I would end up sneezing really badly which left me really wheezy.
Dreamtree and Boris Pasha – at the time it was a shame to separate Honey and Caramel but I knew it was the right thing to do especially for Caramel as things could have ended up worse. It was a shock as I never knew that they could fall out - after living together for so long – I never saw any disagreement or fight previously to that fight.

7th – Cotton (continued)
Cotton always knew how to cheer me up. Whenever I was upset, Cotton would awake from her sleep and sit by the cage door – looking at me with the cutest most adorable expression on her face – and we would have a cuddle which always helped to cheer me up.
Cottons favourite treat was monkey nuts! Whenever Cotton got a monkey nut the first thing she would do was to rescue the peanuts from inside – unlike my girls since who instead pouch their monkey nuts whole. I always enjoyed watching and listening to her cracking/chewing up the shell. Here are some photo I got of Cotton enjoying a monkey nut …

Re: 31 Days of October
Oh my goodness those pictures of Cotton munching on monkey nuts are adorable. I didn’t know hamsters could have them and with Halloween coming up, looks like my Salem will be getting a new little treat
Cotton was a gorgeous little ham. Her little expressive face is everything!!!!

Re: 31 Days of October
Thank you SabreRose. Monkey nuts have been a very popular treat with my hamsters and they are perfectly safe for hamster to - it’s also nice to see them working a little for their treats to. I buy plain natural monkey nuts for my local supermarket.
They would be a wonderful treat for Salem to try for Halloween!

Re: 31 Days of October
I'm allergic to guineapigs, and they used to make my throat swell and make me sneeze, but not so much now I'm older. It started when I was about ten years old. Also I was allergic to horses for a long time. But hamsters and cats are fine, isn't it odd? Do GP's still make you sneezy now or have you grown out of it?
I used to start sneezing if my sister had brought her guinea pig into the house secretly while I was at work, and she was amazed how I knew he'd been indoors.

Cotton's face sat in the cage is just adorable

Re: 31 Days of October
Lovely to see Honey, Caramel and Cotton I find it interesting that Honey and Caramel had such different personalities and it does make you think that it's why some pairs end up needing separating - if they are very different personalities. Cotton's white feet are adorable Hamsters are the only pets I haven't been allergic to as well. It's lovely being able to handle a pet without hands itching like crazy.
