Re: 31 days of August
I'm so excited for this month!
T'ycor was really handsome! He looks like a real sweetheart. It so nice that you gave him a wonderful home - he was very lucky that your weren't put of my that staff member. As I can't believe the staff member said that about black hamsters - personally I have a soft spot for Black hamsters - I think they look really cute especially with their little white paws.

Re: 31 days of August
Thanks everyone I'm glad you enjoyed the little intro & photos of T'ycor, some more photos of him coming up today
It's funny how people can make comments like that about black hams yet most of us love them! I've never seen another since but if I do & the time is right it would certainly come home with me!
AP & Coco I do sometimes have rather convoluted ways of coming by names lol! I love birds & have a bit of a thing for crows & all the corvids & found myself calling him my little crow which isn't much of a name so I played with words until I came up with a kind of abbreviation of T(in)y cor(vid)! He was mostly called Teek for short though
BP & CMB I got him in 2010 so it's been about 7 years full of hams now, how those years have flown by!
CB I only had one ham at a time to begin with so no others until he'd gone to the bridge.
I rarely find biting's a problem thankfully!

Here he is in his first playbin, he didn't really like it too much, I had been worried about buying a playpen, not knowing back then how safe they were or not but his frustration with the bin soon made up my mind on that one & he loved the playpen.

And looking tiny in his bowl, he had quite big ears for a hybrid, a bit more Campbell than WW & is showing them off well there

Re: 31 days of August
Those little white paws and ears are so very cute.
I do love how you chose his name.
I honestly thought you'd been keeping hams for longer than 7 years because of your knowledge.

Looking forward to this month :- Clever how you came up with the name T'ycor. It's a good idea for finding something original. He was beautiful!

Re: 31 days of August
That is a very interesting story about his name, it's nice to have something original
He was so lovely, I like how even though he is black you can still see his stripe along his back. I've never been able to see Jaska's stripe Love his ears and his little white socks and the pic of him stretching up in his sand bath is just adorable I wonder what it was about the playbin that he didn't like? I know you've mentioned previously that your hams haven't taken to the playbin as much as the playpen

Re: 31 days of August
Thanks everyone
I'm not sure about the play bin tbh BP, Chinesys seem ok with it but all my Russians just want out & seem to do much better in the play pen!
Here are some photos of T'ycor in his playpen where he was so much happier Although I think his favourite games were running around on the sofa hunting for sunflower seeds or climbing all over me or even complete strangers he did love his playpen & would spend hours in there!
Beginning to look older here.

In this photo of him as a rather old gentleman you can see just how much his colouring had changed, the black turning to a deep brown & much more white appearing.
He would always come & stand in this same spot when he was ready to come out.

Tomorrow I'll introduce little Ziggy Stardust

Re: 31 days of August
The aging is always more noticeable in black hams. T'ycor still looked very handsome with his grey. That's so sweet him standing in the same spot when ready to come out. An absolute darling.

Re: 31 days of August
Thanks for explaining his name's origin. He was a handsome little fellow, and so cute too! It's curious how much white appeared in his older years. Still, it suited him very well!
