Thank you all - Charlie did me proud really - he inspired me to get interested in flower beds again.

Re: Charlie's flower bed
An update on Charlie's garden/flowerbed. A few new plants and I removed the stones round the edge, made it a bit bigger and merged it with the herb bed next to it. So it's now one deeper, longer bed. There is a new creeping rose bush but it hasn't grown yet. When it does it should twine round the bird bath. Shame the grass is a bit messy! The garden needs a good tidy.

Re: Charlie's flower bed
It looks absolutely wonderful Serendipity. To remind myself I looked back at the photos at the start of this thread. Lovely colours right now.
Funny you should do this update. Mocho's hebe plant is bursting into flower now (none last year) and I am trying to be patient to capture it at its best. So watch out for the update!

Re: Charlie's flower bed
I will! You can just see the rose bush (twig with leaves) in the foreground of the last photo - and some weeds! The bulbs had all finished so I put some pansies/bedding plants in. You can see the primrose is still there though. There is also a new heather plant at the front but that has gone brown now - might move it somewhere else if it's going to be brown most of the year!
Also my sage plant is now two years old and has had no flowers! Anyone know why? My last sage plant had lovely purple flowers on that attracted bees.
The leafy weeds which come back each spring en masse, I have identified as creeping Elder - it's a total pain - the roots have runners and have choked a couple of smaller original plants. I gave the bed a good weeding before the bulbs came out and tried to get most of the runners out this year, but seem to have removed a few bulbs at the same time!
The cowslips didn't survive but the ones in the front garden are proliferating. So I'm sticking with bulbs, hardy shrubs and bedding plants for the bed for now.
I didn't photograph it when the bulbs were out as the weather was a bit miserable but there were a few snowdrops, the primrose and the grape hyacinths. Also planted some dwarf hyacinth bulbs for next year.

Re: Charlie's flower bed
It's a long time since I've taken a picture of Charlie's flower bed. Since the photos last June the whole garden has been very much neglected after I was away a lot last summer and autumn when my Mum was ill and dying. It was a sorry state. Today I tidied it up and weeded it - not much in there yet but some nice primroses, the creeping rose bush has crept a bit further, the heather is not quite in flower, the potentilla bush is just starting to come alive and the grape hyacinths have just finished flowering. The primroses are wild primroses, not garden centre hybrids

Re: Charlie's flower bed
I think this is such a lovely thread. It is wonderful to see how you've maintained Charlie's memorial flower bed and how it has evolved over the seasons. The flowers presently and in past photos look beautiful.

Re: Charlie's flower bed
This is where my beloved hamsters are buried, closest to the camera is Monty's grave and further away is Admiral Lord Nelson. I try to put flowers on their graves as often as I can. They are buried in wooden boxes with some of their bedding and Monty has a small ceramic flower in her box. The Admiral was buried with his medals (yes, he had medals).
