Exclamation Messy Hamster

For the last few days I've rarley seen my hamster out of his bed, even quite late at night. I decided to check if he was okay yesterday and he seem to be fine. I decided to spot clean his cage as it was a bit dirty but didn't have time to clean out the whole thing that night so just gave him new substrate and bedding for where he sleeps. He has a DIY level in his cage just to make things more interesting for him but I was worried he wasn't coming out because he couldn't get to his level so I decided to take it out and because of this his food and water are now on the ground level. I left him and then went to bed once I had sorted everything and given him a new bendy bridge as somewhere to sleep and he seemed to be enjoying looking around his new layout for his cage. Then I went down to see him this morning and everything was everywhere. He'd managed to move his wheel so it was nearly falling over, his food was covered in substrate and he couldn't get to his water because he'd shoved all of his substrate under it meaning that was now wet. I was wondering what I could do to stop this or at least make it so he cannot get water or food all over the place. I'm making him a bin cage at the weekend which should be good for him but with things all on one level I'm worried the same will happen? Any advice would be helpful.
Thank you!

Hamsters seem to enjoy remodeling their habitats to their liking, especially Syrians (though not sure your species). I put all my water dishes on ceramic tiles as I keep a few in my cages just in case my hams get too hot and need to lie on a cool surface. Personally, I would put the shelf back as hamsters generally enjoy climbing about on things, plus it's good to hold the bowl so it won't soil the bedding. I wouldn't worry about the food spilling in all honesty. Many hamsters prefer eating from the bedding rather than a bowl anyways! I wouldn't really worry, many of my hamsters have been whirlwinds and will need to have items in their cage fixed in the mornings. A bit annoying for us, but as long as they're happy and healthy, there's no need to worry Best wishes

You might find it helps to put the wheel on something, you can make a small shelf with some wood & dowels, I put dowels on the shelf too to stop the wheel moving around, find something to put the water on too so it stays put, doesn't spill or get filled with substrate, Drago's tile idea is good or you can make a small shelf to put that on too.
Food everywhere is good! Scatter feeding is better for them than using a bowl anyway as they have to work for it & are very good at finding it so no worries there, other than the wheel & water I would just let your ham arrange things just how he likes it!

2 of my hammies (1 a Female Syrian and the other a Male Winter White) loved to reorganise their cages (much to my annoyance), it's what they would do in the wild so is completely normal for them.
