Default 100 W infrared baking spot

I have a light bulb, max heat for reptiles. Would this bulb be a fire hazard in a desk lamp for 5 min here & there to watch Chinese hammys at night?

It shouldn't be a fire hazard but could be a bit risky!Depending on the strength of the bulb,it might be able to melt some plastic.Be very careful with this,as even I have accidentally melted something with strong lighting(not sure the wattage though).

I wouldn't say so, it takes several minutes for heat lamps to reach full heat potential, and it will take even longer to heat up a surface enough to cause it to start a fire. Make sure your lamp is able to handle the wattage and type of bulb the infrared is. It would be safer to get a clamp light or a reptile specific one to avoid problems, but I'd say it would be okay for just a few mins

Okay thanks I'm not going to use it, I'll try to find LED red lights, don't want to take any chances

I got me some 8W red light bulbs. One is in a tall lamp that bends any way you want it to, so it is shining right above the top of their cage. Another red light is in my closet. So it will be fun tonight to see what happens.
