Default Advice for train + tube travel this Saturday

I have a 3 hour journey this Saturday, 2 hours will be on train and 1 hour will be on tube. [I'm a student going back to university and don't drive]. I have his transport cage which will have in it sawdust, bedding, cucumber to substitute his water bottle and a small amount of food. I will likely be holding the cage close to my chest (I don't like the idea of handles and the motion of it swinging slightly..) and carrying some stuff in my rucksack.

I don't know whether to put him in right before I leave or to give him maybe 15 minutes to get to grips and maybe try and sleep. Any advice generally? I'm really worried about it, but there's no other way to get him from Harlow to Portsmouth!

Thanks!

I would just pop him before you leave. He will be fine. I think if you put him on the table in the train and pop a light cover over the box that will keep him quiet and he will likely sleep all the way

He'll be fine i've done a hamster on a train before, no problem at all, I think they just get on with it once they've worked out nothing is going to hurt them.

The idea of covering the carrier is a good one, just so he can get some kip. That said, he would in theory be asleep during the day anyway.

I've also done long distance travel on a train with 3 guinea pigs in a travel carrier, including across London on the tube. All I will say is keep your wits about you (obviously) and just remember to keep him level. Escalators (I hate them!) are a bit fun with a full size guinea pig 3 box, but with your little hammy carrier you'll be fine. I found the train ticket was a bit of a pain, on the tubes it pays to have it handy. Typically I had no pockets, so I popped it in my bra!

Don't worry about it Callum came all the way up to Darlington from Surrey in a car and then came home to Stockton with me on the train (and slept the whole way ) My mice also travel on the bus whenever someone needs to see the vet. It doesn't seem to faze them at all.
