Cookie looks very beautiful

Unfortunately, you're going to need a different cage Modular cages are not suitable for hamsters or any animal for that matter. The tubes are very bad for their respiratory health, and can be far too small for an adult Syrian so adult Syrians often end up getting stuck in tubes.Plus, modular cages are only for the benefit of humans and are nowhere near as good as a large cage that is all one floor space with no tubes which is less expensive!

If you need a quick and affordable cage, definitely go with bin cages. They're wonderful and can be expanded as much as you can handle, and the expansion is not difficult at all but is truly adding more floor space unlike modular systems

Hi and thankyou for your advice i will be getting a new cage and am looking into bin cages as i do really like the look of them, but the other cage i had that i was going to use originally as it was great for my hamsters to burrow if they wished had broken and i hadn't realised so this was the only cage i had to put her in

Congratulations on the new hamster. Do you have a wheel? Hamsters love to run and need a wheel where they can run with a straight back.

Your bin looks tall, so a suitable wheel should fit. You may find the bin is too small once you have a nice size house, wheel, potty, tube(s) and toys.

A few more toys might be needed to give her lots to do.

You could scatter feed rather than putting it in a bowl. This way it takes her longer to collect/pouch the food.

Hope she settles in soon.

Buy HOME 110 Litre Supa Nova Plastic Storage Crate and Black Lid at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Plastic storage boxes and units, Storage, Home and garden. If this is that bin, you'd need several directly connected to be large enough permanently.

Luckily they're quite cheap at the moment,so if you could order 3 more and then connect them directly over time that would be much better.Just one is very small for a Syrian, and while one may seem nice it just isn't possible to have good enrichment for a larger hamster in such a bin which is crucial to their health and happiness.

That's great It is very simple to add bins directly, though I don't think I've ever seen any videos on it unfortunately. It's essentially the same process as making windows for ventilation, except you'd want to make holes lower on the bins for the hamster to have easy use of each bin. There have been lots of tube-connected bins, and sadly those just aren't true expansions.

It is good to watch videos and figure out at least the cutting part and maybe determine if there are alternative tools you could get locally, other than in a pinch using a wood burning knife as long as it has a good blade attachment. Then you can just apply the window technique but modify it,then connect two or more bins together with zip ties!It may sound complicated, but that's just because explaining it becomes complicated while the process itself is fairly simple.
