28 Days of February 2017
Day 1
As some of you know we moved house a few months ago, and although it wasn’t the original plan, we are now living on a farm. So I hope to show some of the animals around us this month. As well as some photos of Charlie in his active days (he is very old now and not really up to having his photo taken). I shall try not to repeat too many photos from previous threads.
Today I’m starting with Charlie and his habitats. This is his Barney cage in its cosy corner where we live now. It isn't next to a window by the way - the curtain is there to cover up a grungy open cupboard type thing! It’s his third cage.
He spent the first 3 weeks in the unit below, but didn’t seem very happy and got stuck in the tubes so we upgraded him very quickly after googling about suitable hamster cages and finding Hamster Central.
He then moved to the Savic Mickey 2XL. He was very nervy for the first 10 days and it was very worrying seeing him look so shaky and nervous, but by day 10 he was climbing bars and jumping out of his wheel onto the substrate then lying there chilling and looking happy. His favourite place was his rat sputnik - sitting in it and under it.
He moved into the Barney cage at the grand old age of 19 months and loved it straight away – he continued to nap in his rat sputnik when out at night especially when I put a circle of hemp mat in it to make it cosier.
He likes round things

Yay! So looking forward to this month Serendipity.
WOW at the cage collection. That plastic one that Charlie was in and got stuck in the tubes has got to be the most awful.
So love Charlie in his round coconut and his love of round things - What an absolute sweetheart.

Charlie is such a charming little guy! I love him inside the coconut, he's been through lots of different cages! Which out of them would you say you liked best?

Re: 28 Days of February 2017
The Barney because of the size - so much floorspace and easy to fit large wheels and lots of things in for enrichment. But I do miss the lovely big front opening door on the Savic Mickey 2XL. Yes he's on his third cage with the Barney (not counting the holiday cage for a week). He was in the Savic cage for the longest - I just wished I'd bought something a bit bigger when I got the Savic to save upgrading him again, but it did seem huge at first - and then strangely didn't seem big enough lol.

What a perfect way to start February - with handsome Charlie. Interesting read about the cages you've had for him and I enjoy seeing your layouts too. Will look forward to the rest of the month

Re: 28 Days of February 2017
Funny how cages seem to shrink with time lol!
Maybe better the way you did things Serendipity, a move to the barney from his first plastic cage might have been a bit overwhelming.

Re: 28 Days of February 2017
Wow! Did you leave some photos for the other days?? I hope so!! I really enjoyed the first post of this thread and I think that I'm going to love this month thread.
It was very interesting to know about the different cages and be able to compare them.
Charlie looks gorgeous on his coconut. I think that everybody agrees that that photo is really cute
