Sand bath fun
I bought little Margot some chinchilla sand and put it a medium sized feeding bowl and she loved it. However I think I filled it a bit too high because she was digging so the sand was easily kicked out 😂 But she enjoyed a good roll in it so I presume ahe agrees with it!
No idea if she's even had a sand bath before!
How often do you Change the sand in full?

Re: Sand bath fun
Hi, you can buy a little sand sifter plastic scoop from Pet Smart if you live in the US. Otherwise try to locate one in at a local pet store or on-line. They only cost .99 cents. I scoop it out every week or two and use a coffee filter to pour the sand into then scoop out the debris and then pour back the remaining sand into the sand bath. I'd clean the sand bath before returning the sand.
Then you can add additional sand if needed. Not much sand needs to be removed as it evaporates for the most part, but sometimes bedding gets in there and it does need to be cleaned once in a while. If she's kicking sand out try a deeper or wider dish. I never completely change over all the sand. Just keep sifting and adding sand (not much).
Mine don't kick their sand out so Yay! Happy Happy
I'd try a different dish.

Re: Sand bath fun
I think kicking the sand out is as much fun for them as rolling in it so it probably wasn't too deep in her opinion
I don't change my hams sand often at all, tbh I don't even keep track of when, if they pee in it I sift that out but otherwise only if it's looking a bit full of bits of food, poo & anything else they can get in there I change it, at a guess maybe every 3 or 4 months I might take all the sand out & give the bath a good clean.

Re: Sand bath fun
Fab that's pretty much all I was planning on doing with it- just sifting and changing it when I feel the bath needs a clean
I think she doesn just enjoy digging and kicking it out haha!
It's fine I'll just put a little less sand in and maybe find a deep bowl
