Default Would apple or carrot be ok instead?

So tomorrow I am finally picking up Sweep to take him to the hamster sitter. I was thinking about the cucumber and then realized I don't have a knife sharp enough to cut it (we only have plastic knives at home) so could I use carrot or apple instead? I can easily get those snack bags if so, but there is never anything with cucumber in!

I would go with an apple. It will be fine.

A pear has more water content than an apple or a carrot, and even it's not advised to feed hamsters with melon and watermelon as a regular basis, tiny bits of them maybe would do the trick for you this time.

You could try tomato too. I think that his water content is bigger than a carrot or an apple. Think about foods that loose juices when you cut them.

I wouldn't risk tomato.Tomato is highly acidic which is not good for hamsters.Watermelon would be a lot better,or perhaps celery.

Really??

I had read here http://www.hamsterboard.de/ernaehrun...ste-t8274.html (among other sources) that it was ok if you don't feed them the leaves.

I didn't mean to give you wrong advice pink. Actually I've been feeding Blacky a slice of tomato every week for almost a month and a half

It isn't necessarily as unsafe as leek, onion, garlic, etc but it is still unsafe regardless.Even German,Dutch, etc hamster information can have some inaccurate information or flaws.I remember having even found German hamster food containing leek for example, but just keep in mind that no single source is perfect

Tomatoes are fine; their Ph is actually more neutral than some other fruits and vegetables we feed. I've fed mine tomatoes no issue.

Ok thanks. I shall see what I can get in the morning. Will have to be one of those snack pots/bags and I'll eat the rest lol
