Photo Month Thread - November

Hello everyone! I'm delighted to be doing this month's photo thread ... particularly as November is my favourite month of the year!

It seems appropriate to begin with my first hamster, Dandi, a Grey (Unsure as to what type of grey exactly). Who inspired my rather uncreative username 'GreySyrian'. She is named after the character Dandy in American Horror Story: Freak Show. I liked the name better ending in an 'I' for some reason. It also links in with Dandelion which comes from the 'translation of medieval Latin dens leonis ‘lion's tooth’ ' which I thought was rather fitting as she's a biter! As she was my first hamster I wasn't confident in handling and decided it would be better just to accept she wouldn't be a handled hamster (also my excuse for getting another hamster who would cuddle ....). Although I don't get cuddles she is highly amusing to watch!

I made the mistake that most hamster owners do and got her a cage that I soon realised was far too small. They always look so much bigger in the store!

Luckily she was upgraded into a converted IKEA Samla, which she seems very content with as far as I can tell!



And I think that's all for the 1st day!

I have to say I do have a soft spot for her! Despite her persistance to nibble her mesh. Caught her yesterday sitting on the top of her water bottle having a go at it. It seems not even placing it in the lid can stop her :')


November 2 = Hamster 2 !

Rumpelstiltskin was named after the character of Rumpel in Once Upon a Time. Fondly nicknamed 'Rumple' and is my only fluffy, man ham! After learning so much from my pet shop brought Dandi and discovering this forum I found TuftyFluff in the hopes of getting a hamster that was friendlier to handle. I can still remember him making a bit of fuss at being flipped over (which he has long since grown out of).



And on a non hamster related note I saw a first christmas tree, it's strange how the year seems to go so quickly once it's near an end

Awwww he's SOOOO handsome!!

(I went to the supermarket today and HALF of it had Christmas stuff, along with random ailes having Christmas food! Also a friend of mine showed us a pic on FB where her friend has already put up her Christmas tree ... )

Day 3 Catch-Up

More photos of Dandi and Rumplestiltskin, the very few decent ones out of goodness knows how many! Can never get these guys to sit still for long aha

Lovely little characters, know just what you mean about them not staying still for photos lol! but you have some great shots here. That art work is really nice too.
Dandi is really beautiful & has the most adorable ears & Rumplestiltskin is a very handsome man ham.

Day 4 Catch-up

Introducing hamster number 3, Alice! Of course named after Alice in Wonderland. She is definitely the most demanding of the lot and definitely claims the crown. She was another breeder hamster from Blue Rose Hamstery, I decided that breeding would be something I would want to get into and so she was to be partnered with Rumpelstiltskin. I wasn't focused on type as much, it really was just about breeding healthy and good natured pups as a first go to experience what it's like. She had a medium size litter but only 2 pups survived, they did arrive a day early so it's always been the top of the list for reasons this could be but truthfully I'll never know why the others didn't make it. I'll be introducing the pups in the next post!


She really knows how to use her cheek pouches


She's always in bad mood in the mornings, without fail she'll always have a chatter at me when I check up on them. I understand though being not much of a morning person myself!

Sad that not all the pups survived but I'm glad you had two from your first litter & look forward to meeting them.
