Photo Month Thread - September
It's my turn to do the photo month thread this month, and Fluffagrams is going to be a tough act to follow! This is my third time doing a photo month and I don't have a plan In the past I've made a schedule with all the hamsters and made sure everyone's had a share of the limelight. This time I'm going to see what happens! I'm open to requests for photos/posts
Today I'll do a little reintroduction.
Beware! by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
I'm Vectis I’ve been an exhibitor and breeder with a National Hamster Council prefix since 2009. Initially I focussed on just Chinese hamsters but over recent years I’ve branched out into Syrian and Campbell hamsters, duprasi, and for a brief time also robos.
Within the Hamster Fancy I attend most shows run by the Southern and Midland Hamster Clubs, and some Northern shows. I'm a committee member for Southern and Midland Hamster Clubs, and am Section Manager for the Bradford Champs show each January. I am a dwarf hamster judge and Secretary for the National Hamster Council. In my spare time (!), I run educational stands as one of the Crazy Rodent Ladies, and participate in rally obedience and scentwork sessions with my Chihuahua.
Currently I have:
Appley by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
20 Chinese hamsters (plus 2 boys off on loan, one girl here on loan, and 2 young pups)
Sudelph boy by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
18 Syrian hamsters (plus 5 young pups)
Caesar by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
4 Campbell Hamsters
Vulpecula by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
7 duprasi
Mmm, hamster food! by Vectis Hamstery, on Flickr
1 Giant Hamster (aka Rogue the Chihuahua who likes eating hamster food)

Re: Photo Month Thread - September
As requested, today will be Doop Day!
Doops (aka duprasi aka fat tailled gerbils) are a type of gerbil that store water and fat in their club-like tails. The tails get chunkier as they mature. They chew like a gerbil and love endless supplies of cardboard, but are calm to handle like a hamster. They sleep on their backs!

I've been showing and breeding them for a couple of years, although I've wasn't successful in my recent attempts. I've acquired some new girls and today paired them with my lads. There's lots of boxing and squeaking going on in the honeymoon suites which is typical duprasi courting behaviour. They also drum their hind legs in warning or when feeling flirty.

Altair could do with a good sand bath, but someone likes to dig all of his sand everywhere! He goes into the playbox which is has a covering of sand to de-grease his fur.

Fingers crossed for dooplets in a few weeks!

Re: Photo Month Thread - September
Today I wil be having a sort out in the hammy room, and pairing up some Chineseys. It's rather overcast here so not great for taking hammy photos, so I've got some hamster room photos instead. If I can persuade my camera and the light I'll see about some hammy pics later on
The hamster room from the door. The folding garden table seems to now be a permanent feature!

My health and supplement drawers with hamster food bin and cardboard supplies. I've just wiped clean my white board to put up the pairings and due dates.

The spare cage shelves! As you can see, all my cages are in use with only a few temporary/travel cages in storage.

Cleaning supplies and additional seeds for making up the hamster mix live under the garden table, along with the sand box.

The play box (which doubles as an emergency cage when someone destroys their cage late at night) as well as storage for spare cage labels, spare cable ties and spare cage door clips.

Your hamster room is so impressive, especially the rosette board.
