Remind me why they need massive mansion cages???
Why oh WHY did I think the detolf-cage hack looked simple enough?? The detolf bit was EASY! The mesh lid - not so much - 3 hours and two plans later and I have one of two lids and am in need of savlon and a plaster!! *Sigh*

The detolf is looking amazing! I would feel the same about meshing That is a nasty cut - wrap up well and wear jeans! I would get some of those steristrips from the chemist - like sticky on stitches, so it holds the edges together well while it heals. Horrible stuff is sharp mesh edges.

That does look very painful!Unfortunately accidents do happen, and really there's no way of knowing it will happen before it happens so unless you're extremely careful it could still happen.
Hopefully it heals nicely and isn't too painful or isn't painful for long, and hopefully it also pays off in the end!

OUCH! Your hamster will appreciate the literal blood, sweat and tears that have gone into that detolf, I'm sure

Re: Remind me why they need massive mansion cages???
Haha! I love this forum. My leg will be fine. Pride - maybe not.
I'm gonna build the other lid too this evening after work. Has anybody made free-standing water bottles? Does anybody have issues with the glass "floor"? If they dig down to it does it freak them out? My dads tortoise doesn't like glass so I wondered.
I'm gonna need to get my creative juices flowing for interior decoration! I want natural stuff. I like my hams to be able to chew everything and anything and I'm not fond of plastic if I can avoid it. If I was a hammie I would prefer it lol

If you want you could line the floor with some sort of glueless linoleum type flooring, though it isn't really necessary.
Natural can look very nice and calming!Much better for hams anyways, and you can even turn a plain wooden house into a very pretty house with some creativity and hamster safe materials

Re: Remind me why they need massive mansion cages???
BA BAAAAAAA OK day two. Two tops! The second is waaaaaay better than the first. They're only precautionary anyway aren't they? I think some people don't even bother?
I've seen some pictures of ham-parents hanging water bottles from the bar. I also need to make a divide which is the next challenge!
