Default Owner of my previous hamster stopped contact...Anyone have experience?

Hi guys, sorry for the weird title, I found it hard to put it into words really.

So I was just wondering if anybody has had this happen to them also. I just want my mind put to rest really as I am thinking of all different types of scenarios.

As some of you may know, my dwarf, Pudding (RIP) had two babies a month ago. One (Peanut) went to my partner's sister and is absolutely thriving - tamest dwarf I've ever known! The other (Rasher) was given to a girl, who travelled from Cork, Ireland to Limerick to retrieve her.

The girl was very sweet and said she ran a rehoming and rescue centre for hamsters. She had previously offered to help me rehome Beans, the dad of the two. We asked for ten euro for the hamster, for assurance, etc and that was all fine.

The next day, the girl contacted me and we had a lovely chat on Facebook about hamsters and everything. She expressed concern that Rasher had been running in circles a bit. She had done this once or twice before - once after being separated from her brother and the second time after being cleaned out for the first time ever. She had never done it again. After this talk, the girl went silent on me and I told her to update me whenever she can and we agreed to remain friends and in contact as there are not many dwarf hammie friends around where we both live.

However, the next day, she deleted me from Facebook. I further tried to contact her to ask if anything had happen and I apologised for if I seemed too forward or needy (I hadn't messaged her that much and I kept my distance as I did not want to come off as weird). However, I got no reply.

I am just worried that she wasn't who she said she was or that Rasher had something wrong with her and the girl was mad at me for not saying anything, even though I didn't know either.

Has this happened to any of you guys that have rehomed before? Is it normal for someone to just cut contact after expressing some concern for the hamster? :/ My boyfriend made an inappropriate joke when I was freaking out about it about a snake farm..which is not normal for him but ever since, it's really worried me. I know the hamster is not my concern any more but I do not want the guilt that I gave her to the wrong owner.

I hate Facebook lol! It feels so cutting if something like that happens, when it might be that someone is just pruning their account because it's too full. I know what you mean though, it would be nice to hear how Rasher is doing and keep in touch. And the uncertainty isn't nice.

One thing is for sure - you have done nothing wrong. This person has for some reason decided they don't want to keep in contact. This happens with contacts all the time. It could be, as you say, that Rasher has some condition and she doesn't want to talk about it or is upset, or maybe doesn't want to lie to you about it in case you are upset. It might be better just not to keep in touch with people your hamsters go to (if it happens again) and if they ever want to contact you with an update that's fine, if not that's fine too. I once had to give a dog away - she was a year old - after severe allergies. It was a hard decision and my Doctor's recommendation. My parents in law had some retired friends who wanted a dog but didn't want to train a puppy from scratch and it was arranged they would come and visit and take her. It was traumatic! Anyway not long afterwards I heard they had spayed her as soon as they got back home and I was really upset. We had been advised not to spay her until she was a bit older, plus she had had the trauma of moving away to another family and an operation all at the same time.

Sometimes it's better not to keep in touch x

Serendipity has made some good points.
I hate Facebook, I don't use it and never will.
Please stop thinking you've done something wrong, this girl is the one who decided to be awkward. Sometimes these things happen. Sometimes we expect too much from someone.

Don't overthink it. Some people just don't like being friends with people on FB who are not 'real' friends , if you see what I mean! You can't change whats happened so just reassure yourself everything is just fine and she's a private person!
