How far will a 20kg bale of Fitch go?
I just ordered my first ever bag of Fitch - whoohoo! Smokey used to have aspen, Aubiose, and recently a bit of Finacard because I ordered some to make my postage charge from Ratrations seem more justified!
Anyway I have ordered the 20kg bag and I know people say it's a huge bag, but I don't know how far it will go. My cage is about 45cm by 120cm, and the substrate will be about 20cm deep in most of the base - will that 20kg bale be enough? More than enough?

Certainly enough! The bag should last you 2-3 months

Re: How far will a 20kg bale of Fitch go?
I'd say even longer! I use the cleaning method on Erin's Hamster's video which basically means you only ever change the top third of the substrate and re-use the bottom 2/3 - it keeps the cage smelling familiar and saves on substrate.
I get the 10kg bag. When I had an 80 x 50 cage with about 15cm of substrate, the 10kg bag used to last about 6 months. Now I have a 100 x 50 cage with about 17cm of substrate and it's lasting about 4 months. So with a 20kg bag and 120cm cage and 20cm of substrate, I reckon it would last at least 6 to 8 months using Erin's method.

Re: How far will a 20kg bale of Fitch go?
Even when I had three cages, smaller than that but not so much, a 20kg bale lasted me ages, I really can't remember how long but you shouldn't need to stock up again for quite a while!

Re: How far will a 20kg bale of Fitch go?
Ah that's good to know! I wasn't sure whether to get 10kg or 20kg, but for the price difference, seems crazy not to get the 20kg...we should be able to find room in the garage, it's nice and dry in there and it has a radiator in there so it should be fine in there over winter - the rabbits' hay always stores ok in there anyway.
I just do part cleans so yes it should last a long time!
