when you go on holiday
Any tips re transferring your hamster to someone else's house? In a carrier or in their cage? It's a 10 min car journey.
And any other advice would be great. We've only had him a week and he's settled in so well I hate the thought of him being stressed.
Thanks!

Re: when you go on holiday
I think for any car journey however short a carrier would be a lot safer & 10 minutes in the carrier shouldn't stress him out.
You never quite know how they'll react to finding themselves in a different environment, some are fine & others find it quite stressful, keep his cage just as it normally is & don't clean it too soon before he goes so he has his own familiar scent on everything.
Will he be cared for by someone he knows or who has handled him before? If he can get to know them a little I'm sure it would make things easier although it's not essential.

Re: when you go on holiday
yes my parents are caring for him and they both have handled/do handle him. Shall I put a bit of his bedding in the carrier?
Thank you!

Put a bit of his own bedding in there with him but otherwise he shouldn't be too stressed out by it. Def use a carrier as it's safer.

Re: when you go on holiday
Whenever mine need to go in a carrier I put a good depth of substrate in to keep them safe & comfortable then throw in a few handfuls from the cage for scent.

Re: when you go on holiday
How long are you away for? It might be an idea to ask your parents not to clean anything until you get back - it should be fine for a week or two - except empty a potty maybe every few days. The more familiarity the better.

Re: when you go on holiday
We'll be away for 8 days, I scoop his wee's out of the sand bath(as it's easy to given it clumps) and just top it up every few days anyway so his cage won't need a clean. Thanks for the advice
