Default I have a weird question...

Things are going quite well with Cinnamon although I did discover Miss is actually Mr. - oopsie. Guess the lady at the pet store couldn't tell quite yet because he was so young.

He's much more comfortable with handling and all, enjoys the occasional broccoli bit, etc.

But - he's got one of the longer teddy bear coats.

Does anyone....brush their hamster? Am I crazy for thinking it? He had some bedding stuck in his coat and we got it out but....do we trim the stuff around his tush?

I'm totally overthinking this aren't I?

You aren't overthinking it,this is something any hamster owner would probably be considering if they have a long haired ham!I personally would recommend brushing at least once or twice a week as long as he's comfortable with it,and you should not use the type sold for small animals or cats but instead just use a toothbrush as it is a much better size.If you can gently remove things when they get stuck it'll be a lot nicer than brushing them out,but I've heard of people doing trimming as well.Hopefully someone else can talk about that, since I'm not too certain if it affects fur regrowth as it does with some animals or anything like that!

Trimming their fur wouldn't really affect them unless you're wanting to show your ham, just make sure it's not close to the skin. Brushing is normal and I think nearly everyone with a longhaired Syrian hamster brushes them with a little toothbrush or similar.

I believe ErinsAnimals has a video about brushing and trimming hammies. Check it out as it might be helpful.

I used a soft-bristled tooth brush with my long haired ham. I'd brush once every 1-2 weeks.
