Happy Birthday Littlun and Bailey :)
It's a year and 2 months now since I adopted Littlun and Bailey. Their previous owner said they were born March/April 2014 so that makes them about 2 years old now. Neither of them look much different to how they were when I first got them although Littlun has always been more placid and laid-back than Bailey. Here's some pics... Littlun hates the light more than Bailey so he wasn't in his most photogenic mood when i tried to snap them in the playpen so they're mostly of Bailey! Happy Birthday boys x x

Re: Happy Birthday Littlun and Bailey :)
They look great for 2 yrs old! I recently adopted a 2 yr Chinese on Easter through the SPCA & took her to her free vet exam & vet said, who knows maybe she'll be one of them that live to be 4yrs? It might be rare so I look at it as anything over 2 yrs is a gift. But from what I've heard, Chinese can live longer than hybrids (correct me if I'm wrong here? Anyways, happy birthday to them!

Re: Happy Birthday Littlun and Bailey :)
Thanks for your birthday messages from littlun and Bailey, we had a nice day and came out to play and have fun. Cinnamon bear, yes Chinese hams can live for ages although not all do. I think its fairly common for them to live till 3 but after that more rare. I once saw a cute little pair of 3 year old Chinese up for sale on gumtree, they were sharing a mini Dina and cuddled up together with nothing to do in their cage but they looked very content! I think depending on personality of course they r one of the species that does best in a cage, Chinese in my experience love to be at home and all familiar. Bailey gets excited exploring and littlun likes to run but neither for very long.

Re: Happy Birthday Littlun and Bailey :)
Can you handle your Chineseys or do they prefer to not be held? Izzy can't tolerate handling too well at this point. Maybe for real short periods of time at best...

Re: Happy Birthday Littlun and Bailey :)
Cinnamon bear, they were both used to being handled by children before I got them and have gentle, friendly natures but I soon realised when I got to know them that they were putting up with being handled rather than enjoying it. So I don't force it on them, I let them come to me and both will sit in the palm of my hand to eat oats and they will usually let me stroke their backs but they'd rather not be picked up and tend to hide from me or nibble me th next day if I do. They are hard to read as they are so gentle and never protest at the time so I can only go by what they are like afterwards. I figure if they don't want to do it again, it wasn't fun for them. Littlun is easier to handle than Bailey as he is the most placid but Bailey was very cheeky when we went to the vets recently and both of them were happy to come and see me afterwards so its a bit of a mystery.
