To be honest I wouldn't know! The cage I have currently is plastic but am changing to a barred caged for several reasons and thinking about it more logically it makes sense as it will be cooler in the summer ... But then it will be colder in winter too!

I wouldn't put frozen blocks under the cage at all, even if it's really hot in the room you're going to risk chilling your ham, maybe put them close to the cage, one end only, so there is a cooler spot if your ham chooses to go there but don't try to make the whole cage cold.

I was in the superarket earlier but the only terracot flowerpots they had were HUGE - as in way too big for a cage! Really wanted to get a small one
