Re: Summer
Thanks ... Had thought of glass, but worried it might break? What about porcelin? Not totally sure what that is, but it came up on Google under a search for ceramic flower pots! Wasn't sure if it's like china?

Re: Summer
The one thing you must never do is have Sweeps cage in direct sunlight, I have Pips cage in the same place as Forrest's old one in the corner furthest away from the patio doors, there it's always shaded.
If I thought it was going to be a tad too warm I would put a damp tea towel over the cage which would lower the temp in the cage.
Don't forget that Syrian Hamsters originate in the desert and in the summer the desert can easily reach 40deg C.

Re: Summer
Yeah he's away from the sunlight. Although my room is at the front of the house I close the curtain on his side of the room but the sun seems to come more into my side of the room than his Hadn't realized it got so hot where they're from!

Re: Summer
This is a very interesting question for me, because I live in Spain and summer here is... Well, like hell. Thirty degrees every single day, and sometimes it gets worse. A cold mug stays cold like five minutes... Can you think in something more durable, but not harmful? I don't believe that a bag of ice is a good idea...

Re: Summer
We went to Spain at the end of October once and it was 30 degrees pretty much every day so I dread to think what Summer would be like!! No idea what you could do really ... Possibly have a fan blowing round the room? Not sure if it should blow towards the cage or not, or whether it should move so it blows round the room ...?

Re: Summer
Her cage in Madrid is a fop tamburino, it is plastic... And my room is so hot, sometimes I can't sleep! Do you think is ok if I put the cage on two big frozen blocks? You know, those made of plastic, with frozen liquid inside...

Put the frozen ice pack under one part of the cage and unfrozen ice packat under another part of the cage so there is a cold area and a warmer area. It will also keep the the cage level Then your hamster can chose either the cooler or warmer area.
