It's been almost three weeks and there was poop everywhere. She hasn't decided on her toilet spot yet.

I just didn't want her walking and sleeping through/in/on all that poop.

At least she's got a good appetite!

I did save some old bedding and put it back in her house, but she's still all thbbbbbb to me. Hiding in the corner under her shelf.

She's definitely getting bigger which is good to see, and has definitely figured out the water bottle which was a worry of mine.

Half the time she's very clever, grabbing the treat from me but the other half she scares herself with the chew toy when it makes noise and makes herself dizzy on the wheel.



Still we remain patient and vigilant.

I believe their toilet spot is just for pee and that they will poop anywhere. It's good on their digestive system to consume it too. When I spot clean I just get rid of the dirtiest pieces of nesting and then scatter new nesting pieces around for him to drag into his house.

She'll calm down. Just have patience

Their poops aren't dirty, they are like little seeds really and sometimes they eat them for extra vitmans. Ours tended to poop everywhere at first but now he just does it in his house. I shouldn't go round cleaning them up until she is more settled or she will get stressed and do it more probably! If she has chosen a wee spot, you could maybe use a potty litter tray if you don't have one already. They tend to use them if you put them in the spot they prefer to wee in. That way you can get away with a bit of spot cleaning and just empty the potty every 4 or 5 days.

They do get stressed by cage cleans and having their scent completely removed. Erin's Hamsters cage cleaning tips video really helped me to work out a good routine for our hammy

She seems to have forgiven me. She came by and sniffed me this morning and rose up on her hind legs to say hello.

How often should I clean the poops? I've seen different recommendations all over la internet.

It gets so confusing!

She has made a nest and vigorously used her wheel last night and enjoyed a hearty dinner/breakfast. Drank water too and seems very calm...

She sounds to be doing really well. Opinions do vary but advice on here is usually better than vague things on the internet Although peoples opinions vary, I think generally you really don't need to worry about the poops! Obviously if they are taking over a bit you could spot clean a little bit - ie take out the odd handful of substrate and replace it with a new handful of clean substrate and mix it all in a bit so it still smells familiar. If you take away all her tasty poops she will be very upset lol! And think you are a thief! As long as she is nesting, eating and drinking and using her wheel she should be fine. Glad she is interacting a bit with you. As bunerella says, it does take a bit of patience at first and when she is more settled in her new cage and environment she will be easier to start handling and taming.
