Color and personality
Has there been any research or literature that suggests a correlation between a hamsters color and his or her personality? Just curious if there are any links.

I've just had a look but apparently it's a myth! However, you never know:P

Re: Color and personality
I've heard that yellows tend to be more feisty than others. It's where the term 'naughty tortie' comes from. Although I'm not entirely sure this is a fact.

Re: Color and personality
Creams tend to be sweet and easily tamed, and I must admit when Cream is carried in my Torts they are never the whirlwind destructo of a Tort who doesn't have the cream gene.
Yellows here have always been instigators and quite loud screamers. Not in meanness but they just love to hear themselves LOL. Yellows also seem much more determined to achieve a goal then other colors. For instance a Yellow wanting to escape a plastic bin will search and search for a way to chew out. They will not rest until they find that weak point and chew a hole. Where others will give up after a while and admit defeat. Only thing other then personality I know Cinnamon color females do seem to have a stronger odor when in heat then any other colors.

Winston LOVES hearing himself! I've always wondered what genes he may be carrying, he can't be yellow though otherwise he'd be yellow black. He's black but his undercoat has always been a silver colour, it's more noticeable now he's older though.

I had a long haired cream who was so sweet. I have a golden now, and he is nice as well, but not as mellow at my cream was! Very interesting.

The silvery under coat of a LH Black is totally normal. If you have a pedigree of him look and see if his Dam was a Tort. I have found non yellow color males raised by yakety yak Tort Dams tend to follow what they have seen of their Dam, and often the Black or any non yellow males will act as Winston is.

He's from a pet shop so I have no record of his family history. He may well have had a tort mother, who knows!

Re: Color and personality
When you say "cream" - I have a white-ish with brown spots and a little black here and there - almost like a calico...is that what I would call her, a calico?

JL we'd need a photo of your hamster to be able to say anything color wise
