Hello everyone! This is my first post! I haven't had a hamster since I was about eleven so it's been a good seven years and I'm a little rusty on behaviour!
My ham is a brownish grey Syrian called Lola. She's almost 21 weeks old and I got her from the adoption centre in pets at home two weeks ago so she's been handled a lot already and is pretty chill with being touched and handled (has gotten A LOT better over the past two weeks but that could be just us getting used to each other lol
).
But yesterday Lola had been going walking over my hands (one to the other, as you do) and she stopped (which she does often) and she just sat for a while almost like she'd done that thing where they "freeze" when they're listening to something? But she just stayed there and let me stroke her head for a good few minutes and then carried on as usual.
Today (literally about ten minutes ago!) she did the same and let me pet her head for absolutely ages. She wasn't frozen all of the time and she didn't look worried or anything, her whiskers twitched and she looked around from time to time but she was just a lil fluff ball in my hands and then she started having a wash! In my hands! It was amazing! And then she just went back to letting me stroke her head for a minute or two and then went back to walking over my hands. As I said, I'm a little rusty on hamster behaviour but I figured why not come and ask here! She didn't feel panicked or even worried at all (if you understand what I mean?) but I was wondering if anyone was good at interpreting body language and could help me tell how she was feeling? Thank you so much!
Love, Olivia and Lola ☺️🌸
