My first appointment with the "hamster expert" was not very good. I had a few things about my ham at the time and some things he told me were; Hams can't have water dishes (my ham was chewing her bottle at the time) because they would never/don't know how to drink from a dish and would never do that in the wild (with a puddle or whatever). He told me never give them seeds because they would never eat a seed they come across in the wild. He told me they don't need anything to chew to keep their teeth down because they would never chew on stuff in the wild. They don't need wheels because they would never walk anywhere they don't have to.

Wow that's bad! I've recently moved to be closer to my partners family. I loved my first choice vet up there, anything from hamsters to cats rabbits to dogs cows to horses they were great. On getting our hamsters decided to register with vet just in case, got hamsters from Pets at Home (big chain pet store for non Brits) and the branch where I am has a vet surgery was going to register with them but in end registered with the one trusted by my partners family (all family pets have gone there) hope will be good for our hamsters!

Re: Did you find a suitable vet easily?
I lucked out, the shop where I got most of my supplies was able to recommend a wonderful vet ( confirmed by my grandparents who take their birds to the same place. ) You might try asking around the pet shops in your area to see where they take the animals to. Especially if there's a shop where the standards of care are excellent and the staff actually knows what they are talking about.
