Default Easter at Vectis

The Vectis hammies, doops, woof and human wish HC a happy Easter!

I spent the day cleaning out the hammies - and have now finished all but four cages. Two are awaiting new bin cages arriving on Tuesday and two doop tanks need me to pick up more substrate. Everyone but me had a quail egg as an Easter treat. They went down well with the hammies!

Ocie is poorly at the moment with an open pyo so she got half an egg as a special treat. She was thankfully bright enough today to tuck in with gusto.

Ocie's just turned two. She wouldn't be suitable for spaying so she's having medical treatment rather than surgical.

Oh right Vectis. I was just curious as I lost my first ever Syrian female a month ago to Pyo. She lived to roughly 31 months old but it was horrible to see her go in such a way.

Sorry about the negative vibes anyway, I've got another female Syrian now and I'm still getting a feel for things and I won't let Pyo put me off owning girls .

Happy easter to the Vectus hamstery!

Pyo is a horrible disease. I'm sorry to hear about your girl. I've encountered pyo several times before, and Ocie's got a just-in-case appointment booked early on Tuesday should she get worse and need help passing. I don't expect to cure her with the meds, but I do want to give her as long comfortable as I can. She has great-grandpups due next week so a bit of her will carry on

Poor Ocie . It's such a shame that our friends get poorly so easy. Thanks about Suzi it was tough to let her go without blaming myself for what happened, she was in the vets 3 times the week before she passed to replace all of the fluid shed lost through her blood. In hindsight I would've had her euthanised but it's a harsh learning curve with these little guys.

I've learnt so much on this site since Suzi passed though you guys, you know more than most vets in my honest opinion.
