Welcome! I am similar to you in that i kept hamsters when i was younger then moved over to the rattie scene, i had 14 rats at one point and went to shows, was great fun . Since having my children though i didn't have so much space for more rats and after the last ones left for the bridge i hadn't had any other pets until deciding on getting another hamster recently.

Personally syrians are my favourite because of their size and they seem generally easier to handle than dwarfs but everyone has their favourites for different reasons!

hiya,

wel hams dont have the yucky tail! i dont like tails!! they are more fluffy and smaller, need less cage space and eat less. dwarf hams are the fastest and syrians are the closest to rats i guess as they are slower and bigger and dwarfs being closer to mice etc. if you like rats then i would go for a syrian hamster. and boys are more friendly and less likely to bite you! have you thought about gerbils??

oh no i wouldnt have gerbils there great at escaping my partners sister has gerbils and they crewed their way out through the bottom of the cage haha so that wouldnt be any good if the started climbing up the rats cages x
