Re: p@h woodshavings?
If it is branded I suppose you know where it would come from and if it is not branded then you don't. You just wouldn't know where It comes from I guess (says whilst hesitating :P)

Re: p@h woodshavings?
I use whichever wood shavings I pick up from the shop at the time, at the moment it tends to be p@h. I've never had have huge problems with it, as long as I sift through it first to break up clumps & reveal any large or sharp pieces, which there will always be a few.
In other countries, as I understand it, unspecified shavings could be anything including pine which isn't kiln dried, which is bad for your hamster's respiration so Aspen would be a better option. Here in the UK, it's kiln dried so even though it isn't on the label as that, it will still be safe. I use a mixture of shavings & Carefresh, although I like the sound of fitch. But for many people shavings are their only affordable or convenient option so I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to use them.

Re: p@h woodshavings?
Yeah, as Velma said, as it's in the UK it'll be safe because of the laws regarding kiln drying.
I was using Fitch but don't like how big the pieces are. Switched back to woodshavings but my rabbit gets it everywhere. Think I might put him on fleece and just have the hams on woodshavings.

Outside of the UK you have to be careful
Regarding the quality of the shavings, no idea as I won't shop in P@H if I can help it

Re: p@h woodshavings?
Just always be sure to read the packet and stick to plain shavings, kiln dried or whatever. Just steer clear of anything scented or `added` to. Snowflake are the best quality. x

Re: p@h woodshavings?
Thankyou! I was just checking really, as I had heard about kiln drying laws and such here but I couldn't remember where from. And I think home bargains has snowflake, and it's miles cheaper and right near P@H, so I might switch

Re: p@h woodshavings?
Absolutely. Just check the packing and read the wording, although I don`t think Snowflake sell scented products just different sizes of bag. x
