Default Oh dear

I found a breeder earlier that has some long haired syrians about thirty miles away and my husband was up for going after xmas when they were ready. However while picking up pet food from jollyes I suggested we look at the toys..... Now I expect you know what is coming.....

I peeked in at their hamsters they had a some really cute diddy banded hammies (a stunning grey one) in a tank and a single banded in the next tank. Moving along to the final tank I could see a fluffy bum poking out of a tiny house. So as you do I asked about him and before I knew it the man had his hand in lifting the house off of him and this sleepy little face popped out of the bedding which again was swiftly removed from around him (poor hamster). He had been there a long time according to the man and is around 19-20 weeks, he said people have shown no interest in him because he is that little bit older choosing the younger pups over him. Next thing I know my husband is going it is a long haired one you want isn't it! He is a pretty colour! Which he really is he is like the one I was visualising I would home from the breeder. The man then was talking to me saying he hasn't been handled, he is used to hands in his encloser etc... I turn to my husband and he has a travel carrier in his hand. Before I knew it the man was off to get the adoption forms and my husband is saying to me he is perfect and why can't we take him home when chances are he would be stuck their in a tiny glass cage for the foreseeable while the tiny ones are homed.

So mr nameless I keep thinking Sid after Sid Vicious, his little show of teeth and squeeking when he tried to get him into his travel box made me chuckle and I can see I will have my work cut out in taming him compared to the plan of a breeder pup. He is currently in my hospital/travel/quarantine cage because they would not hold him until my cage which in theory is due tomorrow (the tracking ID is not working) has arrived.

I said to my husband he appears to be a nervous little fella and he was like 'Good job hes with us then, if he had on the off chance been homed as a childs pet he may of been returned for biting'

Anyway enough shocked and excited waffle...

Eeeek I am a very nervous hammy mum..

Gawsh he looks so fluffy! It's great you took him on, hopefully any bad habits or nervousness will dissolve as he gets to know you better, let us know how he get's along! Sid would make a good name for him!

Aww he looks like a little cutie can't see why nobody wanted him, he's gonna be so fluffy . Like you I recently just got a new hamster who was also older as no one had shown interest in her and she had been moved to the adoption area, its sad cause there is nothing wrong with her and like you said she probably would have been there for a lot longer.
Glad you could give him a good home for christmas
Just some friendly advice the yellow fluffy bedding can be dangerous if the hamster ingests it or if it wraps around their limbs just thought I would let you know.
Warning....Fluffy Bedding

Fluffy yellow bedding was awful it was what he was in at the pet shop, he hasn't got it with him now. I have no idea why they use it and sawdust in glass tanks (I might just be a sawdust snob though from rat keeping) Suppose it made it easier to lift off him so he could show his pearly whites .. He now has loo roll which I had in my top while I sorted the hospital cage out for him.. I am now sat rubbing the substrate for his cage tomorrow in the hope it has some of my scent on it for him..

That's good to hear just thought I would let you know as some people don't know and your right they shouldn't sell it. I don't use sawdust either so I know where your coming from
Haha might have to try that scenting so my one gets used to me, I've started giving her treats but she is still a bit wary.
Hope you and your ham have a lovely Christmas.

Thanks Ellie you too Nora is just too cute.. I struggled to keep my mouth shut in the shop. The homes were too small, the wheels were tiny and the substrate and bedding. I was complimented by my husband on leaving for behaving myself...

Haha I know exactly what you mean I get so annoyed and start mumbling about how bad everything is, especially when you see the Staff advising people on what cage they need for their new hamster and it is the smallest cage ever, I get so angry.
