Default Hamster has moved out of his house :/

Hi everyone!

I have had my hamster hector for about 6 weeks now, and in the last few days he has suddenly decided to move out of his sleeping quarters and made himself his own nest out of bedding in the corner of the cage... this is also the corner that his water bottle is and where he pees which cant be too healthy for him can it?. Is there any way I can get him to move back in? I put some fresh bedding into the house and he just takes it out and adds it to his nest. Is there usually any reason for this sudden movement?

This is him :

Thanks

I think you will find he's just adding his own flare to his accommodation. I have found that young hamsters sleep in the house, I think as it gives them a feeling of extra security and safety and then as they get use to me - they sleep out in the cage and the house tends to get removed. Its a bit like changing your furniture round in the house

it could simply be to small for him now that he's grown. The houses that come with cages aren't big enough for adult hamsies

My female syrian uses the corner of her cage to construct her nest, its completelly normal and just the hamsters preference, it could be due to the house you have being too small, not having enough ventilation (gets steamy and humid) or that the hamster just fancies the corner of the cage, who knows, but dont worry about it its fine and normal behaviour!

I think alot of the time it depends on temperature, I always notice when it gets warmer my hams would rather sleep in an "open" part of the cage with better ventilation rather than the little house. I usualy just put some bedding in the cage and let them move it to where they want to sleep my dwarf has moved 3 times in the last week.
