Default hi, i need some help over here.

hi, i'm new to this forum.

and i'm looking in getting a syrian hamster and i received this photo from the breeder.
i need help in identifying the colours. Was told that he's a mink syrian hamster but i would like to further confirm the colours here as it look like a sable to me and this is the only picture i have of him.

thanks in advance. (:

Hiya!
He is absolutely gorgeous - I'm loving the long hair.
He's not a pure sable as they're close to black with pale eye rings. I tend to agree with mink which is technically a red-eyed sable so you're not far off and the paler orangey coat comes from the cinnamon side.
Don't take my word for it tho, lets see what the rest of team hamster central reckon!

Whatever the result, I reckon you should definately get him

He does look like a LH Mink as you can just see the eye rings.
He is definitly not a sable. He is far to pale for a sable. Sables look almost black when young with a cream undercoat. the become a more chestnutty brown as they age. Sables are umbrous black eyed creams where as minks are umbrous red eyed creams so have the cinnamon gene.
He is quite a pale mink though and is verging on a cream. Creams from breeders can look very deep almost orangy cream. Mink is normally much richer but the long hair does dilute the colour a bit.
Which breeder is he from horlando? Is it a UK breeder?

My syrian, Smokey, looks just like that!!!! Same black eyes, exactly the same color, same long hair. That could be my Smokey!!!

I always wondered what the right name was for her coloring.

If you get this new hamster, I hope she's as sweet natured as mine. She's never bitten us, and is the gentlest, most placid hamster I've ever handled.
