Default warmer weather advice please.

Hi everyone. We got our Jocardi towards the end if ladt summer and past the warmest bit of the year. Jocci doesn't use a house to nest, she prefers to burrow down into the wood shavings... and some of you may have seen our pics.....she piles the stuff into moumountains and sleeps uunderneath! But...im beginning to worry about the warmer weather. She is in a large perspex fronted wooden cage with a mesh roof. She nests in the back corner under a shelf and sometimes piles the substrate tight under the shelf. I worry if theres enough ventilation and should i remove any sunstrate to stop her doing this......or will burrowing in it keep her cool? X

I'm really not sure if they stay cooler in burrows or not but they're not daft so if she's too hot she should make her own arrangements without you needing to worry too much unless it gets really hot in the room she's in.
One of mine always used to sleep in his sand bath if it got too warm!
You can try putting something like a large mug or something in the fridge then put that in the cage to cool things down a bit.
I have granite tiles or houses with granite roofs which stay really cool but I don't know if you can get anything like that or not.

i did read somewhere to put a ceramic tile in her cage for her to lie on is she gets too warm. I'm sure a mug...or even a saucer would do as well. thank you for that Cypher.
I just worry she will be fast sleep under all that substrate as the days get warmer and warmer and the lazy madam wouldn't bother moving herself and might mecome over heated. I'm probably being over anxious....

I know the feeling - I worry like a Mother Hen lol. I think there is loads of ventilation on top of your cage, so it is well ventilated, and the wood breathes, unlike plastic or glass, so I don't think it will be a problem, and as Cypher says, she'll throw the blankets off if she gets too hot. Good idea about putting a mug or tile in though.
