Re: Spike, The Radiator Siege & Other Adventures
Thank you for the support guys, it means a lot . I'm glad now that I ended up keeping the leftover food and fitch . If I get a young hamster I'll still use the Rodipet senior hamster mix (I think I have about 400g plus an unopened tub left ) but I'll have to supplement it with extra protein. I haven't decided on where the cage is going to be in the new place, it may be a bit tricky as although it's got an extra bedroom the rooms themselves are smaller. I'll have to see once everything is in, whatever happens I'll make it fit!
Meantime I'm going to finally get around to painting the detolf lid and organise my hamster stuff. I am thinking of lightly wiping down all the wooden things with a white vinegar and water solution and leaving to dry out in the sun just to remove the scent - you guys think that's okay? Spikey passed from old age so I'm not terribly worried about reusing his less worn wooden items. Plus I really like the idea of another ham enjoying the things he used to enjoy too. My heart still hurts but I know I can give some ham out there a wonderful life and that's what I really want to do now .

Re: Spike, The Radiator Siege & Other Adventures
I'm pleased to hear you are going to get another hamster Ruby. I enjoyed reading Spike's thread when I joined HC and was sorry to hear of his passing. I'm sure he'll be smiling knowing another hamster will get to have a special home with you

Re: Spike, The Radiator Siege & Other Adventures
I'm really glad to hear that you planning on another ham Ruby, Spike was such a special guy & will always be missed, I don't think it ever completely stops hurting but so many wonderful memories to cherish, I can understand all the stages you've gone through to reach this point where you're ready to give your love to a new little ham & I'm sure Spike will be only too happy to see you giving another a wonderful life, it's going to be a very lucky ham when you find the one that's right for you.
I'm sure just a light cleaning is all you'll need, the vinegar/water solution should be fine.

Re: Spike, The Radiator Siege & Other Adventures
Sorry to hear about Spikey he was a favourite of many here. You did give him a great life and he couldn't have been more loved. Xx
I haven't been on for ages so apologise for my late condolences. I am glad to hear you are ready to welcome another fur baby. Maybe you have and I missed the new thread??
Play well at the bridge Spikey. May there always be a radiator for you.
